European auto supplier opening first US facility in Alabama
A logistics operator has completed work on a new 127,000-square-foot production facility in Tuscaloosa County. It's a project where two Birmingham companies – Graham & Co. and Cooper Construction – played major roles. Truck & Wheel Group will cut the ribbon on its new wheel assembly plant in Vance today. The operator supplies industrial tires and sequencing for the region's automakers.
As we reported, the move is calculated to create more than 70 jobs in the facility that will assemble, sequence and balance wheels for delivery to automotive production lines.
The project was developed by Graham & Co., which also owns the property, and Cooper Construction served as general contractor.
“We are excited to deliver this new project for Truck & Wheel. It has been a great team effort,” said Mike Graham, of Graham & Co. “We hope to continue to develop out the adjacent 75 acres for future projects seeking to serve Mercedes-Benz.”
Truck & Wheel Group was formed in 1998 and has 26 branches in Spain, France, Germany, Portugal and Mexico.
“Truck & Wheel Group is introducing advanced automation technology that is new to our region,” Dara Longgrear, executive director of the Tuscaloosa County Industrial Development Authority, had said. “They will make a good addition to our automotive cluster and our international community.”
